A turtle washed ashore on Harlech beach, in September 1988 was approximately 100 years old and attracted worldwide attention as it was the largest and heaviest turtle ever recorded, measuring almost 3m (9ft) in length and weighing 914 kilos (2,016 pounds).The leatherback turtle is now on display at the National Museum Cardiff.

We've already had 2 separate sightings of dolphins from the beach this year and whilst dolphins are amongst the most beautiful wildlife things to see, most of our local coastline has now been designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

Office gossip | What's happening locally
Andy took part in the Pwllheli triathlon at the begining of the April. This was the 3rd time the race has taken place and each time the weather has been lovely and warm! The course was a 400 metre swim, 12 mile cycle and finished with a 3 mile run. There were 152 finishers and Andy came in 76th overall and 7th in his age group with a time of 1 hour 23 minutes 26 seconds.

What's happening locally
It may have been a long winter with short daylight hours but there has been plenty of peace and quiet and for 3 sundays in a row there was snow on the mountain tops. When the sun did shine, local people were treated to amazing views of snow covered summits and icy estuaries that lots of summer visitors miss. You can travel anywhere in the world but no matter what there is to see elsewhere, North Wales has always been the best place to come home to!

It's not everyday we get a new road opening, especially on time! The new by-pass has now made travelling around Porthmadog from Criccieth, Penrhyndeudraeth and Caernarfon directions much more convenient. Porthmadog High Street doesn't seem so congested so it's much easier to get to the shops now as well. Let's hope that some people's fears about a change in passing trade don't adversely effect the town to much.

You should have felt the weight in those panniers - just the maps alone were bad enough! Tony has just completed the mammoth solo bike ride raising money for an orphanage. Keen to start fishing early on the sea, last week was spent in hope that silt would settle out to give clear water on shore before the return of turbulent low pressure systems. Tuesday morning was forecast the end of settled, high pressure, but early morning remained fine, so skipped breakfast for the beach to fish up to 10:00 AM high tide:
